Favorite Fantasy Scenes
Seleia's little drama troupe had so much fun performing in Favorite Fantasy Scenes, a story that wove together excerpts from The Neverending Story, The Hobbit, Peter Pan, Alice In Wonderland, and A Midsummer Night's Dream to tell about the importance of reading and imagination in our lives. Of how these stories mean something important and have much to teach us. I wish I could have gotten more pictures of the performance! Very tricky to do while videotaping with the other hand, though...
In The Neverending Story Seleia played "Bully #3", taunting Bastien about his book report ("Lets have a read-a-thon." She shouted sarcastically, among other things). In The Hobbit She was the dwarf Sorin ("What does he know of sorrow!!?") and she was hilarious as a Lost Boy in Peter Pan. "My mother had wrote my name on the picnic basket I was lost in. Slightly Soiled, that;s my name!" My favorite of all, though, was her performance as the Queen of Hearts. "YOU ALARM ME! I feel faint! Give me a ham sandwich! ANOTHER! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!" (The picture with the lovely camera flash in the mirror...they were performing in the Looking Glass Hall at Northwest Children's Theater... is Seleia on a pedestal as the Queen herself. These pictures just cannot do it justice!) They all did a fantastic job! And, yes....we're very proud, Seleia!

Little Bear and the Mermaid
Yes, I've finally managed to get the performance pictures off of Seleia's camera! If you can't tell, I'm just a bit proud of Miss Elora Kay for her reprisal of the role of Else Holmelund Minarik's Little Bear in Little Bear and the Mermaid in the Storybook Theater at Northwest Children's Theater.
"Guess what? Father Bear is coming home today! He has been fishing out on the ocean. Far out on the ocean. What if maybe he saw a mermaid? He is bringing me a lovely surprise, maybe she is coming home with him!"
She was joined by Owl, Cat, Hen, Duck, Emily, and Lucy too as they journeyed to Little Bear's home and meet a mermaid....maybe. Quite a few wonderful friends came to watch as she acted her little heart out, said her lines with enthusiasm, and had a great time doing it. And she liked the red roses her Daddy got her...just a little bit. :)

All Gussied Up
For her birthday, Joel's parents took Seleia to see an on-stage performance of one of her favorite movies: White Christmas! She had so much fun, and even got to go for dinner at her favorite restaurant to boot! For a special treat I let her wear a hint of eyeshadow, a touch of blush, and some shimmer lip balm. Suddenly I had a young lady standing in front of me.....wasn't she eight a couple of days ago??

I'm Boldly Going
I've been to Shakespeare in the Park. I've seen concerts in the park. I've even seen the Dalai Lama in the park. But this summer I'm determined to go boldly where I've never gone before.....a Star Trek episode (Space Seed last year. Khaaaaan! Amok Time the year before that. This year is Spock With A Beard! Yess!!!! I know, my geek is showing. I know what all of the episodes are from their titles alone. Thanks, Dad.) performed live out of doors, sound effects and all. Local band Fast Computers provides the theme song and background music. The whole concept cracks me up! I've got to see this.

Finding Spring!!
This last week was the end of our drama season, with Elora shining as Pinky the Tulip in Finding Spring. Toad is distraught that he can't find Spring, even though it's only early March, so Frog, Snail, Wormeena and the others join in to help him look, only to discover it wasn't the season he was looking for, but his cousin, named Spring. Elora made the cutest flower bulb ever, of course, and was hilarious when she got irritated with Toad for all the noise and threw a "rock", nailing him in the head. "Look, it's that Toad again. He really is quite self-centered. Doesn't he realize that bulbs need their sleep? How does he expect ME to be ready for SPRING? Silly old Toad! Get a life!" Everyone was cast so perfectly and did such a great job. (Though, I have to admit that one of my favorite things was Frog's English accent coming and going throughout the performance.) The musical numbers were so much fun, Elora's solo was beautiful, and her smile lasted for days! Way to go Elora! We're so proud of you!

The Sauce With A Kick ~OR~ The Accidental Success
This past Friday Miss Seleia blew us away performing in a melodrama written and produced by her group at Northwest Children's Theater, all aged 8-12. It was hilarious. So. Much. Fun.
Seleia played the part of SP Money who, along with Rona Zoni (played by Danielle) were the "dumb sidekicks" to the evil "Tony Spaghetti #66". They tried to sabotage Mama Marinara's cooking school (which educated the likes of Bella Bologna, Pete Za, Mac A. Roni, and Lolly Pop). In the end, Susie Ratatouille saved the day and Tony Spaghetti and his goons ended up in food jail (for attempting to open a fast food chain...KFC for Ketchup Fried Coconuts....loaded with trans fats, "which have been outlawed for decades".) SP added concrete, chili peppers and fireworks to her batch of sauce...and when they attempted to try it the fireworks went off...bright lights, smoke machine....you could tell these kids had a lot of fun writing this play, and they did a great job! (Their teacher/director Suezann Kitchens truly knows how to get the best out of young performers, and you can tell that she loves what she does!) Seleia was the youngest in her group...the only 8 year old...and she really stepped it up and held her own with the big kids. We're very proud of our big girl!
